I can't send emails from my mobile phone

This troubleshooting guide will take you through a number of possible causes to help you find a solution to your problem.

Possible cause 2:

1. 1. Find "Access Point Names"

Tap Apps.
Tap Settings.
Tap More settings.
Tap Mobile networks.
Tap Access Point Names.

2. 2. Create new data connection

Tap the Menu key.
Tap New APN.

3. 3. Enter data connection name

Tap Name.
Key in Optus email and tap OK.

4. 4. Enter APN

Tap APN.
Key in yesinternet and tap OK.

5. 5. Enter country code

Tap MCC.
Key in 505 and tap OK.

6. 6. Enter network code

Tap MNC.
Key in 02 and tap OK.

7. 7. Select authentication type

Tap Authentication type.
Tap PAP.

8. 8. Select APN type

Tap APN type.
Key in default and tap OK.

9. 9. Save and activate data connection

Tap the Menu key.
Tap Save.
Tap the field next to Optus email to fill in the field.
Tap the Home key to return to standby mode.

10. 10. Find "Email"

Tap Apps.
Tap Email.

11. 11. Enter email address

Tap account@example.com and key in your email address.

12. 12. Enter password

Tap Password and key in the password for your email account.
Tap Next.

13. 13. Select option

If this image is displayed:
Follow steps 14 through 17.
If this image is displayed:
Follow steps 18 through 32.

14. 14. Select settings for email account

Follow the instructions on the display to select settings for the email account.
Tap Next.

15. 15. Enter email account name

Tap the field below Give this account a name (Optional) and key in a name for your email account (such as Private or Work).

16. 16. Retrieve email

Tap Done.
Wait while your mobile phone retrieves new email.

17. 17. Exit

Tap the Home key to return to standby mode.

18. 18. Select server type

Tap POP3 account.

19. 19. Enter username

Key in the username for your email account.

20. 20. Enter incoming server

Tap the field below POP3 server and key in the name or IP address of your email provider's incoming server.
If Optus is your email provider, key in mail.optusnet.com.au as your incoming server.

21. 21. Turn encryption of incoming email on or off

Tap the drop down list below Security type.
Tap None.

22. 22. Enter incoming port

Tap the field below Port and key in 110

23. 23. Turn deletion of email on server on or off

Tap the drop down list below Delete email from server.
Tap Never or When I delete from Inbox.
Tap Next.

24. 24. Enter outgoing server

Key in smtp.optusnet.com.au

25. 25. Turn off encryption of outgoing email

Tap the drop down list below Security type.
Tap None.

26. 26. Enter outgoing port

Tap the field below Port and key in 25

27. 27. Turn off SMTP authentication

Tap Require sign-in to turn off SMTP authentication.
When the box next to the menu item is empty, SMTP authentication is turned off.
Tap Next.

28. 28. Select setting for retrieving new email

Tap the drop down list below Email check frequency.
Tap Never or the required period.
Tap Next.

29. 29. Enter email account name

Tap the field below Give this account a name (Optional) and key in a name for your email account (such as Private or Work).

30. 30. Enter sender name

Tap the field below Your name (displayed on outgoing messages) and key in the required sender name.

31. 31. Retrieve email

Tap Done.
Wait while your mobile phone retrieves new email.

32. 32. Exit

Tap the Home key to return to standby mode.
