How to

Setting up my mobile phone for email

Want to set up your mobile phone for email? Follow these easy instructions.


List view

1. Find "Access Point Names"

Tap Applications.
Tap Settings.
Tap Wireless and network.
Tap Mobile networks.
Tap Access Point Names.

2. Create new data connection

Tap the Menu key.
Tap New APN.

3. Enter data connection name

Tap Name.
Key in Optus email and tap OK.

4. Enter APN

Tap APN.
Key in yesinternet
Tap OK.

5. Enter country code

Tap MCC.
Key in 505 and tap OK.

6. Enter network code

Tap MNC.
Key in 02 and tap OK.

7. Select authentication type

Tap Authentication type.
Tap PAP.

8. Select APN type

Tap APN type.
Tap Internet.

9. Save and activate data connection

Tap the Menu key.
Tap Save.
Tap the field next to Optus email to fill in the field.
Tap the Home key to return to standby mode.

10. Find "Email"

Tap Applications.
Tap Email.

11. Create new email account

If email accounts have been created already:
Tap the field at the top left corner of the display.
Tap the Menu key.
Tap Add account.

12. Enter email address

Tap account@example.com and key in your email address (such as name@provider.com).

13. Enter password

Tap Password and key in the password for your email account.
Tap Next.

14. Select option

If this image is displayed:
Follow steps 15 through 18.
If this image is displayed:
Follow steps 19 through 33.

15. Enter email account name

Tap the field below Give this account a name (Optional) and key in a name for your email account (such as Private or Work).

16. Enter sender name

Tap the field below Your name (Displayed on outgoing messages) and key in the required sender name.

17. Retrieve emails

Tap Done.
Wait while your mobile phone retrieves new emails.

18. Exit

Tap the Home key to return to standby mode.

19. Select server type

Tap POP3 account.

20. Enter username

Tap the field below User name and key in the username for your email account.

21. Enter incoming server

Tap the field below POP3 server and key in the name or IP address of your email provider's incoming server.

22. Turn encryption of incoming emails on or off

Tap the drop down list below Security type.
Tap None.

23. Enter incoming port

Tap the field below Port and key in 110

24. Turn deletion of emails on server on or off

Tap the drop down list below Delete email from server.
Tap Never or When I delete from Inbox.
Tap Next.

25. Enter outgoing server

Tap the field below SMTP server and key in mail.optusnet.com.au

26. Turn off encryption of outgoing emails

Tap the drop down list below Security type.
Tap None.

27. Enter outgoing port

Tap the field below Port and key in 25

28. Turn off SMTP authentication

Tap Require sign-in to turn off SMTP authentication.
When the box next to the menu item is empty, SMTP authentication is turned off.
Tap Next.

29. Select setting for retrieving new emails

Tap the drop down list below Email check frequency.
Tap the required period.
Tap Next.

30. Enter email account name

Tap the field below Give this account a name (Optional) and key in a name for your email account (such as Private or Work).

31. Enter sender name

Tap the field below Your name (Displayed on outgoing messages) and key in the required sender name.

32. Retrieve emails

Tap Done.
Wait while your mobile phone retrieves new emails.

33. Exit

Tap the Home key to return to standby mode.
