How to
Set up your mobile phone for IMAP email
You can set up your mobile phone to send and receive email from your email accounts. Using IMAP, your email are kept on the server and are synchronised between all of your devices. It is therefore possible to access your email from different devices. Before you can set up your mobile phone for IMAP email, you need to set up your mobile phone for internet.
Find "Accounts & sync"
Create new email account
Enter email address
Enter password
Select server type
Enter username
Enter incoming server
Enter incoming port number
Turn off encryption of incoming email
Enter outgoing server
Enter outgoing port number
Turn off encryption of outgoing email
Turn off SMTP authentication
Select setting for retrieval of new email
Return to the home screen
Turn email notifications on or off
Return to the home screen
Enter account name
Enter sender name
Return to the home screen
Tap Settings.
Tap Accounts & sync.
Tap Add account.
Tap Email.
Tap Email address (Support all common mailboxes) and key in your email address.
Tap Password and key in the password for your email account.
Tap the drop down list.
Tap IMAP.
Tap Sign in.
If this screen is displayed, you email account has been recognised and set up automatically. Follow the instructions on the screen to key in more information and finish setting up your mobile phone.
Tap the field next to "Username" and key in the username for your email account.
Tap the field next to "IMAP server" and key in the name of your email provider's incoming server. If Optus is your email provider, key in mail.optusnet.com.au as your incoming server.
Tap the field next to "Port" and key in 143.
Tap Security type.
Tap None to turn off the function.
Tap the field next to "SMTP server" and key in smtp.optusnet.com.au.
Tap the field next to "Port" and key in 25.
Tap Security type.
Tap None to turn off the function.
Tap SMTP standalone authentication.
Tap Done.
Tap the field next to "Inbox sync frequency".
Tap the required setting.
Tap Done.
Tap the Home key to return to the home screen.
Tap Settings.
Tap Notification and status bar.
Tap Manage notifications.
Tap Email.
Tap the indicator next to "Allow notifications" to turn the function on or off.
Tap the Home key to return to the home screen.
Tap Email.
Slide your finger right starting form the left side of the screen.
Tap the settings icon.
Tap the required email account.
Tap the field next to "Account name" and key in the required name.
Tap the field next to "Nickname" and key in the required sender name.
Tap the Home key to return to the home screen.
