How to

Setting up my mobile phone for email

Want to set up your mobile phone for email? Follow these easy instructions.


List view

1. Find "email+accounts"

Slide your finger left on the display.
Tap Settings.
Tap email+accounts.

2. Create new email account

Tap add an account.
Tap the required provider.
If your email provider isn't on the list:
Tap advanced setup.

3. Enter email address

Tap the field below Email address and key in your email address.

4. Enter password

Tap the field below Password and key in the password for your email account.
Tap next.

5. Select option

If this image is displayed:
Follow steps 6 through 11.
If this image is displayed:
Follow steps 12 through 25.

6. Select synchronisation

Tap Email only or Email, contacts and calendar.
Tap sign in.

7. Edit email account settings

Tap the email account you've just set up.

8. Enter email account name

Tap the field below Account name and key in a name for the email account.

9. Select setting for retrieving new email

Tap the field below Download new content.
Tap the required period or manually.

10. Select period for retrieving email

Tap the field below Download email from.
Tap the required period or any time.

11. Save and exit

Tap the confirm icon.
Tap the Home key to return to standby mode.

12. Select account type

Tap Internet email.

13. Enter email account name

Tap the field below Account name and key in a name for the email account.

14. Enter sender name

Tap the field below Your name and key in the required sender name.

15. Enter incoming server

Tap the field below Incoming email server and key in the name of your email provider's incoming server.
If Optus is your email provider, key in mail.optusnet.com.au as your incoming server.

16. Select server type

Tap the field below Account type.
Tap POP3.

17. Enter username

Tap the field below Username and key in the username for your email account.

18. Enter outgoing server

Tap the field below Outgoing (SMTP) email server and key in smtp.optusnet.com.au

19. Turn off SMTP authentication

Tap Outgoing server requires authentication to turn off SMTP authentication.
When the box next to the menu item is empty, SMTP authentication is turned off.

20. Edit advanced settings

Tap advanced settings.

21. Turn off SSL encryption

Tap Require SSL for incoming email and Require SSL for outgoing email to turn off SSL encryption.
When the boxes next to the menu items are empty, SMTP authentication is turned off.

22. Select setting for retrieving new email

Tap the field below Download new content.
Tap the required period or manually.

23. Select period for retrieving email

Tap the field below Download email from.
Tap the required period or any time.

24. Activate email account

Tap sign in.
Wait a moment while your email account is activated.

25. Exit

Tap the Home key to return to standby mode.
