I can't send emails from my mobile phone

This troubleshooting guide will take you through a number of possible causes to help you find a solution to your problem.

Possible cause 4:

Your settings for sending emails are wrong: Set up your mobile phone for email.Detailed instructions.

List view

1. 1. Find "Mail, Contacts, Calendars"

Tap Settings.
Tap Mail, Contacts, Calendars.

2. 2. Create new email account

Tap Add Account....
Tap the required email provider.
If your email provider isn't on the list:
Tap Other.
Tap Add Mail Account.

3. 3. Enter sender name

Tap Name and key in the name you want to use as sender name in your emails.

4. 4. Enter email address

Tap Address and key in your email address.

5. 5. Enter password

Tap Password and key in the password for your email account.

6. 6. Enter email account name

Tap Description and key in a name for your email account (such as Private or Work).
Tap Next.

7. 7. Select option

If this image is displayed:
Follow steps 8 through 10.
If this image is displayed:
Follow steps 11 through 17.

8. 8. Select synchronisation settings

Tap the indicator next to the required data type to turn synchronisation of the specific data types on or off.
Tap Save.

9. 9. Select settings for retrieval of new emails

Tap Fetch New Data.
Tap the indicator next to Push to turn the function on or off.
If you turn off Push:
Tap the required period or Manually.
To select settings for a specific email account:
Tap Advanced.
Tap the required email account.
Tap Fetch or Manual.

10. 10. Exit

Tap the Home key to return to standby mode.

11. 11. Select server type

Tap POP.

12. 12. Enter incoming server

Tap Host Name below Incoming Mail Server.
Key in the name or the IP address of your email provider's incoming server.
If Optus is your email provider, key in mail.optusnet.com.au as your incoming server.

13. 13. Enter username

Tap User Name below Incoming Mail Server and key in the username for your email account.

14. 14. Enter outgoing server

Tap Host Name below Outgoing Mail Server and key in smtp.optusnet.com.au

15. 15. Save information

Tap Save.
Please wait while the email account is created. This may take up to three minutes.
If various prompts are displayed, accept these to continue the setup.

16. 16. Select settings for retrieval of new emails

Tap Fetch New Data.
Tap the indicator next to Push to turn the function on or off.
If you turn off Push:
Tap the required period or Manually.
To select settings for a specific email account:
Tap Advanced.
Tap the required email account.
Tap Fetch or Manual.

17. 17. Exit

Tap the Home key to return to standby mode.
